All About This Adventure
At Kindred Learning Adventures, we believe kids learn best by getting their hands dirty and exploring the world around them. Our Budding Naturalist Program, in partnership with the Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District, gives home-educating families the chance to dive into Virginia’s local ecosystems through hands-on learning. This program includes the Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE), a state-endorsed initiative that helps students understand their impact on the environment and how they can be part of protecting it. Through guided field studies, nature observations, and real-world conservation projects, young learners will develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world while building practical skills in scientific inquiry. Each session is designed to spark curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and strengthen kids’ connection to their local environment. Budding Naturalist Program Schedule Over six weeks, families will explore Virginia’s native plants, animals, and ecosystems while learning how to be good stewards of the land and water. ------------------------------------- 🌿 Week 1 (4/14): Native and Invasive Plants – Learn to identify local plant species, understand the role of native plants in the ecosystem, and discover how invasive species affect biodiversity. 🐾 Week 2 (4/21): Native Animals – Get to know the wildlife in our area, their habitats, and the important role they play in the ecosystem. 🦜 Week 3 (4/28): Native Birds and Ornithology – Observe and identify birds in the field while learning about migration, nesting, and how to support bird conservation. 🐞 Week 4 (5/5): Beneficial Insects – From pollinators like bees to natural pest controllers like ladybugs, we’ll explore the tiny creatures that make a big impact on the environment. 💧 Week 5 (5/12): Protecting Our Water – Learn about our watershed, human impact on water quality, and simple ways we can help keep our waterways clean. 🌊 Week 6 (5/19): Meaningful Water Education Experience (MWEE) – A hands-on field study where students test water quality, analyze their findings, and explore ways to protect aquatic ecosystems. ------------------------------------ This program is a great fit for families who love the outdoors, want to learn more about local ecosystems, and are looking for an engaging, community-based learning experience.
